138 Hour Fast

Just got finished fasting for 138 hours, which I didn’t originally set out to do. Last Sunday after dinner at 22:00, I had planned to do a 48 hour fast since I felt bloated (not sure why since I have been eating keto for weeks). After passing 48 hours, I decided to go to 72, then 96, then 120. I ended it today at 138 since I wanted to adjust to food slowly before having a visiting friend over for dinner tomorrow. Otherwise I would have kept going. I broke the fast with a cup of protein shake. Preparing to make eggs and mushrooms with an avocado to cap off the evening. During the fasting period I had water, black coffee, green tea, and a men’s multivitamin. I didn’t have any serious negative effects from the fast, other than wanting to take a nap every time I came home from a walk. There were no periods of hunger, prob thanks to being on keto prior. The big thing was trying to stop thinking about food since I love to cook. Weight loss was not the goal, but over the fast I dropped 12 pounds. Prob not much water weight since I got rid of a lot of water in February when I started keto. I will need to take care to try not too lose too much muscle going forward. Blood pressure averaged slightly lower than normal. I will start a new fast on Tuesday. No set duration except for when my body tells me to stop. If anyone wants to join me, ping me and we can keep tabs on each other.

Congratulations on your fast. Most of my fasts have been only 3-day fasts, but occasionally I’ve gone longer. I am wondering about something though: you just finished your fast today, and you’re going to start another fast on Tuesday?

I’ll admit I don’t know everything about fasting, but that seems like it could be a problem to me. After ending a fast I know our bodies need some time to recover and such. Jumping from fasting to eating to fasting so quickly seems to me that it would do your body more harm than good. I finished a 7-day fast about two weeks ago, and I want to do an even longer fast soon, but I plan on waiting until at least April to do so.

I’d really be curious to hear from more experienced fasters, but it’s my guess that waiting such a brief time between fasts–particularly seeing that your previous fast was rather long–would be counterproductive.

Anyway, glad to hear your fast worked out.
