18/6 Questions

What’s up! New to the IF community, did my first fasts this week. Decided to do just two days to see how I felt and coped with it, surprised that it wasn’t as difficult as I thought. My questions surround what types of food to break a fast with? I work mobile in a truck and so whatever I break my fast with will need to be smaller and preferably not refrigerated. I broke it this week by eating several handfuls of mixed nuts, plain ones without any salt or seasonings. This okay or should it be something else? I have a several hour gap between when the fast ends and when I actually can get in the kitchen for something substantial. I’m trying to eliminate sugar and lower salt consumption for health reasons, which means no processed foods. I figure doing the fast 2-3 days per week, with a calorie target of 600-700 on fast days.

Answer

Really whatever works for you. I do find nuts hard on my stomach first (thats probably a me thing), but if you feel ok, its totally fine. Most days its a salad, crackers, yogurt & fruit, todays its gonna be pizza though lol

Answer

Just a suggestion:

A handful of “raw” almonds, an avocado and one of those single serving cans of pineapple juice…and just keep a thing of garlic salt in the truck to sprinkle on the avocado after you slice it - which you can do with the handle of the same plastic spoon you use to eat it, in a pinch.

When I was hiking ten miles a day - in a different life before I gained 70lbs - that was my go-to trail meal. You can swap out the avocado for a greek yogurt if you have an insulated lunchbox.

Edit: These days I have access to a kitchen at lunch and I make homemade miso b/c of the probiotics, the choline and the fact that it clears out my guts about 45 minutes afterwards, lol.
