Dropped 35 lbs. having trouble dropping the last 10 lbs. goal 160. 5’7” 30-70 minutes exercise 5x a week. Walking/yoga. I would like to hear from other women what they eat each day to maintain or lose weight. Do you weight yourself daily or weekly to keep an eye on your weight? I’d like to get to a point where I don’t have to count calories daily and obsess over the scale. Also paranoid of gaining. Thanks in advance.

Answer

I don’t weigh. My scale broke and I never replaced it. I go by how my clothes fit, how I look naked in the mirror and my fitness (am I lifting heavier weights, can I run faster and further while staying in Zone 2 etc.).

I’m vegan. The majority of my food comes from whole foods I prepare myself. I do 18:6 and break my fast with a mix of nuts and dried fruits - raw or dry roasted, no added sugar, oils, preservatives etc. in the fruit. Most weeks it’s apricots, dates, Brazil, walnuts, hazel and pistachio.

Lunch today is a cauliflower and pea dish and a tofu dish made with kale and sunflower seeds from a book called Plant Based India. Dinner will be a sweet potato and eyed pea soup with pupusa. I have two so about half a cup of the masa harina. I stuff with sauerkraut. I’ll also have a side salad of various spouts and tomatoes for no reason other than they are on their last legs and need to be eaten today. At some point I’ll have a protein drink (unflavored vegan with water). After dinner I usually have a big bowl of frozen mango. I try avoid processed foods but I’ve got into the habit of getting a pack of Oreos from the snack bar at work

Drinks are a diy Mud/WTR I make at home, rooisbos tea someone gave me as a gift and water.

This is fairly typical of what I eat. I meal prep Sundays and usually make two dishes for lunch and some kind of soup for dinner. I also throw in a couple servings of fermented foods every day. Usually kimchi. This week it’s been sauerkraut and fermented beets.

I don’t drink alcohol or soda and most of my foods are whole foods so tracking calories is less of an issue. I do track fiber. I do the whole 30 different items a week thing. I also loosely track protein and make sure to add extra fat (hence the nuts) as I’ve upped the intensity of my workouts.

Is a lot of this age? I am 46, 47 in May. I think our body shapes and capacities for spot loss and composition change is a reality we have to contend with. Celebrating improved health and that incredible 35lbs off (and keeping it off!!) and an improved quality of life is where it’s at. You’re awesome!!!

Answer

I have very similar stats, age, and height to you. I am doing 16:8 and also eating a low carb Mediterranean type diet so no processed food. Have you tried low carb? I just started a month ago and doing the fast 800 through 12 weeks and then moving to 5:2 with the same diet. I am concerned for a plateau on the last 10 pounds as well. My goal is 140 but 150 is a comfortable weight for me. Are you able to do any HIIT workouts? I don’t know. Let me know what works because I have a feeling I will be plateauing very soon!
