Accidentally intermittent fasting

I’m an 18 year old student and due to my new uni routine and struggles with my mental health I often forget to eat. I’ve realised that since the new year particularly I haven’t been eating at all throughout the day and have one meal no earlier than 10 pm. I might have a snack or cup of coffee to sustain me but that’s usually after midday. I know this isn’t particularly healthy but I also have felt no adverse affects. My weight hasn’t really changed much and my energy levels have always been low. Should I keep up with this purposefully? Is this was intermittent fasting even is?

Answer

I think this depends on what you’re eating.

Your gut biome has a huge impact on health, mental health and weight. So if you’re accidentally IFing AND eating unhealthy foods, I’d say you’re setting yourself down a bad path. If, however, you’re focusing on eating lean proteins, plenty of veg, nuts and grains, then yay you!

ETA my youngest is now a sophomore in college and he spent his first year missing a lot of meals. Thankfully he’s realized that it was not healthy & didn’t work for him; he feels much better this year since he’s focused on more regular meals and working out regularly.

Answer

It’s not really unhealthy at all unless you are eating drastically below maintenance and eating really unhealthy choices. If you’re maintaining your weight then you are fine as far as the former goes. As for the later, if you eating fast food you probably want to make healthier choices and get a good mix of everything, meats/proteins, veggies ect for a good micronutrient balance.

Answer

What you are eating matters as much or more than schedule.

Stress also slows down losses, as does lowered sleep….often overlooked

If you are having a noonish snack and then eating at 10…that’s like a 14/10….k8nda low wind fasting and won’t really see much from it
