Almost intermittent fasting?

5’6/42/CW 186 lbs/SW 202 lbs/16:8 Right around thanksgiving I stepped on the scale and realized I had crossed a weight I swore I would never see (202). So, I made a bunch of dietary changes. For example I cut out most sugar and bread and I started to fast on an 16:8 schedule. Well, almost fasting. About three hours before my eating window starts I typically have a homemade latte which is less than 100 cal. I then eat a normal lunch and a normal dinner. I’m pretty strict about not eating after dinner. I “cheat” because the latte seems to be an immovable part of my morning routine. I suspect it’s a combination of caffeine addiction and the ritual nature of it. When I was trying to fast without the latte I was basically failing at fasting. I should add, I’m not a fan of black coffee. My weight loss has not been dramatic, but it has been steady. I suspect most of this loss is from the calorie deficit created by just not eating breakfast. My question is, would I see a dramatic difference in my weight loss if I stopped drinking the latte? Has anybody ever been in a similar situation and made the transition to a stricter fast? How did it effect you?

Answer

So I hate to say this bc I feel ya on the love of a good latte - but it made a difference for me. However - I was still having my cappuccino in the AM when I woke up (not later into the fast like you) but I even cut back on the milk and only had a tiny bit. I thought I could never give that up bc I also didn’t like black coffee and liked the ritual of my capp. I noticed a big difference once I cut the cappuccino out I lost weight almost immediately (still new to this though). After a couple of days I can honestly say I actually am liking an americano now - maybe even more so than a coffee w milk! Give it a try even just for a few days… i think it’s worth it.
