An apples weight is generally about 200 g, so double all those figures. 12% vit c in one apple, that’s pretty good.
You aren’t eating an apple for magnesium or potassium, etc. you’re eating it for fiber, pectin, carbs, water. It’s a good healthy snack because it has low carb content per volume and low sugar content and it can stave off sweet cravings. Plus some fiber and pectin, you got yourself a good quick snack. Add in some peanut or almond butter, shit you’re on a roll.
It’s definitely not a vitamin and mineral powerhouse but a medium apple still provides the body with small amounts of a ton of different vitamins and minerals. Also provides the body with a ton of antioxidants and polyphenols which help the immune system fight off free radicals. I don’t know why you think they provide zero nutrients?
not totally. Apples are an incredibly nutritious fruit that offers multiple health benefits. They’re rich in fiber and antioxidants. Eating them is linked to a lower risk of many chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer
I reckon 90% of people (probably higher) would see substantial improvements in their health if they simple ate one apple a day.
I mean for the average American a single medium Apple is probably over 50% of their daily fiber lol.
If a plant, especially fruit had no vitamins and minerals and little to offer it would not be successful.
This is the most narrow minded view of things. Completely ignores the fact there’s like 1000 types of apples. And that you’re not eating only apples.
Oranges are pretty garbage in comparison, being pretty easy to rip the sugar from, the fibre hardly makes a difference in oranges.
Potassium is completely overhyped because in whole foods focused diets, you don’t need to worry about that at all.
Magnesium has been ripped from soils to the point supplementing is probably the best option and is hardly present in fruit compared to other sources anyway.
You don’t get b vitamins from fruit. A (in reality) is an animal nutrients since the only good form comes from animal foods. And I’m sure there’s maybe a small selection of fruits with e since its also fat based. So why are we moaning?
By your logic, we should only eat the best fruits around. They have good gut motality, they are easy on digestion (debated to be the best actually) and contain plenty of nutrients for their calories.
Don’t like? Don’t eat. But I’d keep in mind we’ve consumed them forever, they played an important role in every culture. Even become the icon of Christainity, Norse mythology and so on. Our ancestors weren’t dumb enough to eat empty food.
