Avoiding caffeine while fasting

Does anyone else avoid consuming caffeine while fasting ? I get palpitations, bad anxiety and light headed consuming black coffee while fasting causing me to have to break my fast . Doesn’t matter how much I drink It just messes me up . Quit drinking caffeine and I’m able to do 24 hr fast pretty easy . Even able to strength train and run

Answer

It makes me absolutely nauseated if I’m fasting. Consuming caffeine has caused me to blow so many fasts because I’ll feel sick and have to eat something. It took me forever to make that connection. Now it’s so obvious.

Answer

ive been wanting to quit caffeine for ages but black coffee it makes fasting so much more bearable even its just 1 cup in the morning. I also worry about not losing as much weight because apparently caffeine speeds up weight loss.. I might try fasting 3-4 days with and without coffee to notice any difference in weightloss

Answer

You might have an intolerance to caffeine. Try out a cup or two of black decaf coffee and see if you can tolerate that or not on an empty stomach. If you still have problems, then it might be best to quit black coffee and stick to water during fasting.

I drink a lot of black coffee during fasting when I am around other people in order to keep them company when they are eating. But, when I am alone, I skip it during fasting as I find that I don’t need the caffeine to go through 24 hours of fasting.

Answer

i stopped drinking caffeine about a year ago and i’ve never looked back. i’ve been doing IF (usually OMAD or 20:4) for years and caffeine was giving me panic attacks for a while, just took a long time for me to accept it. personally it’s worse than alcohol for my body. the caffeine withdrawal only lasted for like 2 days and consisted of headaches and irritability.

Answer

I absolutely need caffeine to keep me going whenever I’m fasting. Maybe if I slowly had less and less over time leading up to a fast I could do it, but I think my brain chemistry is addicted to it and whenever I don’t have any caffeine for more than a day or two I get a massive headache and then feel sick for a few days. Not a fun time.

Answer

I don’t need caffeine to fast or workout. I had the same issues when addicted to coffee. I still love a cup of decaf every now and then. I’ve been sucked back in sometimes and the symptoms start after a couple days.

Answer

I definitely have negative effects from black coffee while fasting, if I have any at all I keep it extremely light and drink very little, or stick with green tea, which makes me feel amazing. But too much green tea will also give me anxiety and nausea. Moderation!

Answer

Sometimes I feel like I have too much energy and my heart has a hard time with it. That was at first. Now it’s calmed down and drink my coffee to break my fast after I workout. I use creamer with sugar.

Answer

I get the same feeling. I used to drink water when fasting but bought that Death Wish coffee and was addicted. Didn’t think anything of it until I had my first cup. What made things worse with the palpitations and nausea is that I am training for a new position via Microsoft Teams. I was so fidgety people probably thought there was something legitimately wrong with me

Answer

then don’t drink it

While I don’t drink coffee, I do drink green tea and do so without any noticeable effect upon metabolism

remembering of course that caffeine has a half life of approximately 6 hours

Answer

I think it depends on what kind of coffee it is, flavor, bitterness and how person’s gut reacts to it. There obviously is no right or wrong answers.

My personal experience while doing IF/OMAD (which means I don’t have breakfast) is, I enjoy a coffee with mild flavor as first thing in the morning.
