It really depends on your specific physiology; it depends on the health of your pancreas, your experience fasting, and other factors.
This a question for your doctor.
My non-expert guess? Yes almost certainly. But if you’re asking this you probably feel unwell or faint while fasting? In which case maybe it’s not safe.
I run fasted almost daily. I have built up to this though. Get used to fasting first. Then run a couple miles and see how you do fasted. I typically take a nuun tab that has vitamins and electrolytes prior to running. Technically I think it would break the fast as it has abt 15 calories in it. Have something on hand to replenish in case you’re body doesn’t handle it well.
I do it all the time.. ill do a 10 mile run in the afternoon with no issue(often 18-20 hrs into a fast) .I have practiced intermittent fasting for about 7 years though so my body is used to this type of behavior
I’ve personally have done this multiple times. I would work 10 hours sleep 4-8 hours prior without eating then go to work and got to the go the gym. I was fine i have even done this on 24 hour fasts. It’s not easy entirely possible.
Just make sure you’re drinking enough water the human body is a powerful machine. Pace yourself and know yourself.
I cycle fasted. Sometimes I hit a wall and feel like I have no energy really early in a session but it disappears quick.
For me definitely bring in fat burn and every calorie counting is a good motivator to exercise before the end of a fast.
Last winter I ran 20 miles on an empty stomach. 4am in the middle of winter. I probably had only been fasted for 10 hours at that point.
How far are you planning on running? After your glycogen is depleted you will hit the wall very quickly.
I workout fasted, it’s great. Your body will be in a great state of balance once you get used to it.
I typically row fasted- either on the water for 40-60 min, or on my rowing machine for 20-30 minutes.
I’ve also done many longer distance runs (up to a half marathon in 1.5h) in a fasted state. The craziest part is, I didn’t even feel like eating for an hour or two after that half marathon. Our bodies are fascinating machines.
