Can I still fast with my weird problem?

I am trying to lose 40lbs. I did OMAD before and saw a difference but that was last spring and have since gained weight back. I get anxiety that makes me want to gag/feel sick and the only thing that temporarily stops the feeling is having a snack. Like literally half a potato chip, small piece of cheese, it has to be sweet or salty to really work. I started doing 16:8 on Sunday and have fasted a total of 67 hours so far. I went down 1lb, but weighed myself again today and already got discouraged from going up 1/2 lb. Sounds dumb I know but it was disheartening ugh. I am watching my calories and starting my fast earlier some days to get some extra hours in. What can I do to make my "fasts" more efficient? I still continue as if my fast is still on if I have to sneak a nibble. I also need to have a mint in my mouth when I wear a mask, to help when I can't snack in a store. It's sugar free at least lol Thanks!

It looks like a coping mechanism, and therefore you could try to shift to a different one. Some people use a comfort object in their pocket, or recite a mantra or poem etc. If you feel something bad happens if you don’t get that nibble, I would look into help for OCD or similar. I suspect those little bits of calories stretched out over your fasting period are working against you.

Answer

It isn’t technically fasting, the way people define it, but it is something.

The whole point is achieving your goal. If you can do whatever you’re doing in a way that allows you to limit you calorie intake in a sustainable manner that results in you losing weight, then go ahead. Half-assing something is better than no-assing.

Weight loss takes time and persistence, and then you’re gonna see the pounds fly, you just gotta keep at it.

Some advice, stop weighing this frequently if its going to be this discouraging for you. It’s just going to cause further problems. The body natural fluctuates lbs of weight day in day out for a number of factors. 1/2 lb is literally 8oz of water. Even the very act of fat loss involves water getting used, stored, and let go later.
