I think it’s important to realize that fasting for 16+ hours a day is completely normal in human history. Our bodies are very well adjusted to this kind of thing, so there’s no reason to fear all those issues you mentioned so long as you are eating well.
As per Huberman Lab podcast on this subject, liver health improves substantially with 16:8 IF
As per my medical school curriculum, the introduction of food is what stimulates the production of gastric acid. So you should have less acid with IF, not more. Many people who do IF report resolution of GERD within weeks. I am one of those people :)
Today marks 8 weeks I’ve been doing IF - 18 pounds down!!!
Honestly, I’m on OMAD past 15 days and my emotions are in control, sleep patterns changed and I feel no tiredness.
I heard it too where stomach acids are filled in if you’re skipping a meal regularly but I don’t know it’s true or not and decided to continue the same for about 2 months and compare with the changes.
Ketosis and basically all of your questions in paragraph 2 aren’t really relevant to 16/8, but more like multi-day fasts.
You will be more thirsty and that’s okay! Often what we think is hunger pangs is really just signals for thirst.
If you feel ready, you can safely push it to 24 hours sometime, just see how you feel.
I know what you mean. I’m doing 18/6 with three 24 hour fasts a week (from dinner to dinner) and it’s way easier than I expected. I read Intermittent Fasting by Dr. Fung. It was helpful. I do take an acid controller in the morning but I always take a travel mug of black coffee to sip through the morning. It find it helps with hunger but gives me heartburn on an empty stomach.
