Chia seeds, protein hack?

Chia seeds are high in calories, fat and protein. Just wondering how much of this protein will the body absorb. Are chia seeds a good protein source?

But no, they are not really good. When was the last time you ate a 100-200 grams of chia seeds in 1 sitting? The average serving might be around 20g, that’s a whopping 3.4g of protein.

Definitely not a protein source hack.

It’s 17g of protein in 100g, for 486kcal. There are much more efficient protein sources out there.

With that said, chia seeds have other properties which make them great, and of course they are super tasty.

Pay attention to your body while eating them. I can not have them 3 days in a row. Like if there’s a cereal that is heavy with chia seeds I have to take a break from the eating it after day two. If I don’t I get the WORST stomach blockage and gas.

I use chia seeds in lots of my cooking. When I make a quiche, bread or muffins, fritters of any sort, plant based sausage rolls or patties, as well as mixing with milk and vanilla essence for a pudding. Try hard to not spill them in your sink, as the little blighters love to stick and swell up and make themselves at home. And then stick to any cloth or brush used to clean up!

Chia seeds are an amazing source of protein. I believe aztec (mayan?) warriors used to eat them before battle.

They are also a great source of Omega 3 fats, and fiber. I would say they are crucial part of anyone’s diet.

A dead simple recipe is to pour some chia seeds in a bowl, add some almond milk and let it sit in the fridge for about 20 minutes. It will turn into chia seed pudding. Then you can add berries, nuts, flax seeds, oats, hunny, or whatever. It’s really delicious and easy to make.
