Yesterday morning, I finally broke my 30-day fast (No Food November).
# What did I eat on my refeed?
I had >!eggs and an avocado for breakfast. Then at dinner time I made myself a caesar salad with homemade dressing, croutons (I know, shouldn't have carbs), bacon, roasted chicken, freshly grated parmesan. !<
The previous times I broke fasts, the first meal always tasted amazing, but honestly, I've got to say that food yesterday was a bit disappointing (except maybe that >!avocado!<). Not sure if it's my taste buds playing tricks on me or if I just hyped it up too much in my head.
I haven't eaten anything today yet; I'm still stuffed from that salad yesterday. I'll probably have another salad tonight if I get hungry.
# How did my fast go?
I've done a ton of fasting in 2020/2021. I followed 2MAW (two meals a week) for almost a year. I've done a 14-day fast before as well (where I had lost \~28lbs). So this wasn't my first rodeo, but it was my longest fast by far.
I had minor surgery (ERCP and cholecystectomy) just a week before starting my fast, but the doctor OK'd it (and I was going to stop if anything started to go wrong).
I cooked for my wife and kids for every single meal, but I'm used to cooking while fasting. It's always a bit hard when it's your favorite foods.
My hunger was a bit high the first 3–5 days, then it gradually went down. By the second week, hunger was gone completely. But I had *really* intense cravings through most of the fast (especially for fried foods like >!fried chicken!<). For some reason, the cravings died down a bit during the last few days of the fast (I would have expected them to go up since I knew food was coming).
My energy levels were pretty normal. I have a desk job though so not physically demanding. I did go on medium-length walks frequently without any trouble. I did have a *bit* of trouble focusing on my work, but I don't think that had anything to do with my fast; I've just had a lot on my mind and I was having trouble focusing *before* my fast too.
During my fast, I had a mug of vegetable/chicken broth once in a while during the first half of the month, then in the second half of the month I was having home made bone broth. I also had flavored sparkling water, as well as coffee with Splenda and cream. Kept my calories below 50kcal/day.
***Yes, I know, not a true/clean/water fast; who cares—I'm getting results.***
I had a bloodwork done a week before ending the fast and everything looked OK.
# What are my results?
During my fast, I lost 35.8lbs. I had a whole week with no weight loss, which was frustrating, but I'm still happy with the overall results!
As for NSVs, I guess I look a bit thinner. My tight jeans are now fit better. 35.8lbs isn't that much when you're still 60lbs+ over your ideal weight.
# What's next?
I'm going to take a few days where I eat whenever I feel like, then I'm getting back on 2MAW (two meals a week) until I reach my goal weight of 200.0lbs.
# Do I recommend a 30-day fast?
Nope. I'm never doing it again. Two weeks is my max from now on (maybe even one week).
* A full month is just inconvenient; can't really plan your fast around social events.
* It can be dangerous (refeeding syndrome) if not done right.
* The net weight loss (i.e. the weight you lost once you factor in things like what you gain back shortly after you stop fasting, that water weight) is pretty much the same as rolling 72s/96s or 2MAW (two meals a week), i.e. 0.3–0.5lbs/day (I tend to be on the high end of that number).
# Misc
The fasting app in the image below is the "LIFE Intermittent Fasting" app by LifeOmic. I usually use the "Zero - Intermittent Fasting" app by Zero Longevity Science, but I wanted to try out this one. The weight tracking app in the other image is called "Handy Weight Loss Tracker, BMI" by "Easy Creation" (it's great weight tracker app by the way, if all you really want out of it is weight+BMI+trendline).

Thank you. Awesome post.
I’ve attempted a 30 day fast multiple times and it’s just not for me. Absolute hell. Rolling fasts produce essentially the same results with less of a risk on your physical and mental health.
Congrats on your fast. I doubt even 1% of the population would be able to willingly abstain from food for a month.

I’m also in agreement with rolling 72/96h fasts. Going much longer seems to get boring. Me experience matches yours, that the weight doesn’t seem to fall off faster and in my experience stalls at 120h.
