Those people who promote 100% raw diets pain me physically.
There are several nutrients that aren’t as accessible to our digestive system/metabolism without being denatured via heat. The last I heard, going theory was that being able to cook proteins is what led to us developing brains of larger size and complexity compared to our ancestors/other primates. That goes without mentioning the food safety aspect.
Yes, some foods are more nutritious raw. But that doesn’t mean you should be eating uncooked chicken and raw bull testicles.
Making insane high protein meals but with almost zero fat really annoys me, like those “chicken breast/greek yogurt ranch/fat free cheese burritos with no carb wraps”. Theres no way they taste that good and theres no way you have zero room in your macro budget for any carb or fat
Any restrictive diets are over the top cringy in my book.
The fad against fruits… there’s an actual doctor going around internet claiming don’t eat fruits and bringing up fructose research to support his claims 🤦♀️
This isn’t an extremely specific trend as much as a glaring gap in public knowledge but, the idea that all calories are equal so they must all be bad or all be fine without moderation. The polarization of it is cringey too.
I’m surprised the carnivore diet isn’t on here. I am not a nutritionist by any means but eating only meat seems like a really bad idea long term. Yet people talk about going carnivore, at least on Reddit, like its no big deal and the most normal thing.
The SAD (Standard American Diet) which is getting sadder and sadder
The vegans who want to force everyone into veganism.
The non-vegans /fake vegans who pretend to be vegans just because they think it’s cool or superior.
The croissant diet
All other diets that don’t take into account nutrition
The no carb diets.
I remember working at a burger place and a couple each ordered 2 beef Pattie’s, a plate of bacon, some cheese, and lettuce.
I was like, ya, you’re not eating any carbs, but you’re to have some massive cholesterol/ blood pressure issues if you keep eating like this! Gross!
paleo, I mean the dude who created it was kicked from Master Chef for being a wackjob and once claimed Paleo could cure cancer.
He had everyone fooled (still kinda does) and all he had to do was keep his mouth shut, he’s like the JK Rowling of diets.
All the seed oil crap. Worse than sugar and highly toxic are punted about. Edit: Example not an endorsement, my pantry has three seed oils in it right now.
I can’t wait until a couple of decades down the road when the steak & butter bro influencers get sued into oblivion for promoting such nonsense.
I don’t think it’s a new fad but it is definitely way over done. Protein for muscle gain, the 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. On top of that people also take their total weight and don’t consider all the other organs, fluids, fat and bone that make up total mass. The correct ratio of protein is more like 1 gram per 2 to 3 pounds of lean body mass.
I’ve seen people claiming on social media that random foods are “toxic” and that you should basically never eat them. Most recently broccoli and garlic? Fruit even, apparently because some people think that all sugar is bad for everyone.
I have to limit my consumption of certain foods and everyone always assumes that I’m trying to lose weight, vegan, keto, celiac or anti-dairy. When really I’m just eating for my health, I hate “diets” and any restrictive eating plan.
