After a solid five days of body-wracking, non-COVID illness, I’m restarting my 20:4 fast today. I’ll share my attempt at fasting while sick below..
Type: Water, black coffee, tea, tea, more tea, powder Propel
Context: Restarting, so back on day one!
Length: 20 hours fast, 4 hour eating window, indeterminate time (till goal weight!)
Why?: To maintain a sensible eating pattern, lose weight and gain energy.
Notes: Well, I got sick on Tuesday and as fasting continued into Wednesday and this atrocious cold took over (fever, insane congestion, throat so sore I couldn’t speak), I read a bit around and it was greatly suggested to discard fasting until I was better. I couldn’t agree more; my body did not need to focus on burning energy while so blasted with illness! I didn’t make great dietary choices but I didn’t make terrible ones either. I had to drink a lot of honey and lemon teas, soups and definitely consumed the chocolates my boyfriend brought me to feel better; optional. I consumed a lot of zero sugar Gatorade, crackers, toast with butter (no appetite) and proteins, mostly eggs.
So my advice if you’re feeling ill and it’s bearing down on you what to do… I got better in a stronger fashion by coming off the fast and consistently introducing healing foods to get the cold off of me. Besides, all I could think about was how exciting it was going to be to get back on the fasting schedule. 20:4 makes me feel great and I know that sticking to it will get me back.
End novel. Lol.
Started last Thursday, trying to do 18:6Also no caffeine after lunchFeeling okay so far, storms have prevented me from planned exercise but hopefully it’s starting to die down. Plan on adding 2mile walk to train station and back instead of driving to work (rising fuel prices are a great incentive!)
Checking in for the first time!
On a no food (water, black coffee, tea, magnesium, salt water) fast for 66 hours. Basically skipping 2 eating windows of 2-8 on Monday and Tuesday, commencing Wednesday @ 2pm.
Done a 36 hour 2 weeks ago, 48 hour last week and pushing to 66 this week.
Feeling energised. Love the boat of energy around 24 hours!
Doing longer fast to activate some autophagy to supplement 18-6 & cico the rest of the week. SW was 117kg, CW 111kg, GW o(interim) 99kg (who knows where I want my final goal to be. Bitesize baby!
Would LOVE to see how far I can push a no food fast, could I really get to 4,5,6 days?! Probably not as I’m training for a long bike race in the summer.
First time checking in, I just joined the group.
I’m doing a 16:8, water only during the fasting hours. Started at 6pm and will end tomorrow at 10am. I will be doing this for the foreseeable future as I want to lose about 50lbs. This is my 4th day using intermittent fasting but I’m feeling pretty happy with it and having a shorter period to eat in has made sticking to my calorie goals easier. Drinking lots of water has also helped me to not feel hungry in the evenings, I worry that I’m not eating enough protein thought as I’m a vegan, I eat mostly fruit and veg, but I did buy lots of chickpeas and lentils this month to try and add more protein.
37 hours - Water, tea, coffee and a multivitamin. Started after dinner on Sunday.
Going to go do some Yoga and break my fast just shy of the 40 hour mark.
This is the longest one I’ve done yet. I feel surprisingly fine. At 23 hours the hunger stopped. A little irritable today, but otherwise I’m good.
I did OMAD all last week. Refed with 18:6 on the weekend (it felt like SO MUCH food). I’ve been on 16:8 for a couple weeks before that. This morning the scale said 246 (I know I’ll gain some back eating, but this is the first time I’ve been under 250 in over a year).
