Eating nothing is a lot better than eating a little. You shouldn’t be scared of food. Also for weight loss that will stick, eating below 1000cal a day is a definite no no! Have yoy looked into doing OMAD or ADF or other types of IF?
Caloric restriction is counter productive while fasting and it is not even necessary. You are basically asking your body to shut down your metabolism when straight fasting actually ends up raising it.
Fasting is not caloric restriction, you basically flip a switch. Your liver simply starts metabolizing fatty acids for energy. After several days your basal metabolic rate actually goes up, your Human Growth Hormone goes up 400% to protect your muscle mass.
Caloric restriction nukes your metabolism. Your body sees that there is food out there so it tries to match its expenditures to that trickle of food. Your metabolism goes down, your muscles get carnibalized because they are metabolically expensive.
When you fast, you don’t eat. When you eat, you really need to eat. Else you are undermining the process.
