Disappointing Results - 7 day fast

I just completed a 7 day fast and didn't lose a single millimeter from my waist, which is the main reason I was fasting. I did lose 5kg, but the only place I look fat on my body is my waist. Now after 7 days, I look even fatter, because my gut sticks out even more compared to the rest of my body. I know it's a marathon not a sprint, but can't help feeling disappointed. Why didn't I lose anything from my waist area? Stats : 38 male, 173cm Started: 80kg, 36 inch waist Ended: 75kg, 36 inch waist

Answer

Everyone’s body tends to store fat in certain areas more than others. This area that often what inspires a person to lose weight in the first place more often than not is the last area they will lose fat. Not sure if it’s true but I read that the last area you gained fat will be the first area you lose it. Don’t give up and keep at it

I think for you I would recommend OMEOD (One meal every other day) see on a 7 day fast your body enters deep ketosis, a survival mode and this will optimise your body to be as energy efficient as possible. Sticking to 48 hours will be optimal for weight loss.

I think if you can stick that through for 1 month you will see some tremendous results, world renound Cardiologist Dr Pradip does this for some of his patients who really struggle with losing the weight.

How frustrating - one of the real buggers of losing weight is that you almost have no control where your body decides to use up fat.

Your 5kg loss is an achievement, and your fast wasn’t in vain - it just might take a longer time of a fasting regimen to tackle your waist!

I’d attempt another 7 day fast in the coming weeks, and maybe you’ll see some results.

I’m currently on day 7 of 14, and the fat I have lost or can feel I have lost is on my thighs, back and arms, and round my face. My belly is still quite the belly!

IIRC men tend to gather/retain more fat on stomach, women on thighs. We can’t choose where to lose fat but don’t get discouraged. You might feel like you look more fat but I can guarantee you do not - even if your gut sticks out more. If you haven’t yet, take progress pictures. They might help you see the progress.

My suggestion is IF or another longer fast soon, also core strength training or walking/running. Good core strength and posture do a lot for your body. Them and cardio also lessen bloating. Any kind of sports help with body image issues.

Wishing you good fasting. Remember, 5kg in a week is a lot!
