As someone who has diverticulitis PLEASE FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS ADVICE! I didn’t, had extreme pain for years that we thought was sciatica, turns out that the diverticulitis was pushing against the nerve. I ended up with a twisted and partially collapsed bowel needing surgery to remove approximately 18 inches. Take the meds, what is packed into the pouch is probably rotting.
First off, sorry to hear about the diverticulitis…It’s good you have a doctor you can work with.
I had a housemate with that…it was rough for him. I’m hoping that it won’t be for you.
As far as length of fasting (and maybe others who are experiencing this can chime in), it may you’ll need to try different eating windows.
It makes sense to start with the easiest…12 hours fasting, 12 hours eating window. Your sleeping hours will take up most of the fasting window. Eating window & your condition will guide you on the foods.
You have a unique road ahead…listen to your body. Fondest wishes for success!
My dad had diverticulitis a decade or so ago. Take the antibiotics. Trust me.
He did not take the Flagyl & Cipro and so, three weeks later he was hospitalized b/c his diverticulitis abscesses the only way to treat it at that point was to put him on IV antibiotics and NPO (nothing per oral) for 9 days. He said the pain was so bad they gave him a morphine pump that he could press every 15 minutes to give himself 2mg of morphine.
Take the antibiotics while you still can.
Edit: this is also a triggering event, you will now have IBS gut issues for life. It’s not a “once and done” ailment.
After you’re finished with the antibiotics start looking into the Fodmap diet. My mom had it pretty bad and she followed the diet for about 2-3 years and has never had anymore issues. She’s conscious of the foods she shouldn’t eat and only has then sparingly. I know garlic and onions (green onions are ok) and red meat are a few of the main culprits when it comes to diverticulitis.
I had an incident about 6 years ago. Pain was no joke. Had an abscess that created a partial tear. Had to have about 13 inches removed. Not sharing to scare you, just to take it seriously and get work your way back as you can. No need to rush 👍
