Do I have to restart?

I've been fasting for 48 hours and in a moment of distraction helping my elderly mother get a snack and drink, I drank a little bit of 7Up from what was left in the can after pouring into a glass. I also brought her a Turtle candy (pecan, caramel chocolate candy) and unwrapped one for myself, not even thinking. The moment I put it in my mouth I realized, "NO! what am I doing". Also, if you're asking why I gave my mother that, she had been eating hospital food for 2 months. And this is my very first extended fast and I'm using the Life App. I've been sipping on a Na + K water solution with Mg tablet every 4 hours and feel decent to my surprise! p.s. I know it's not a picture of food, but thought of playing safe with mention of ingredients of candy.

I have a hard time believing anyone was like “why is a candy in your life?”.

You don’t HAVE to do anything. You ate a bit, so what? You don’t reach your goal of not eating, and you may feel more hungry than before. Also, you may find it funny you forgot you were supposed to be fasting, and you may find out how it affected your body. And you may still reach your goal of basically not eating for 48h.

You will NOT be arrested, and no one will think badly of you. You did not gain any extra weight, and there is no implication towards how your next fast will go.

Good luck, and stay positive!

That’s not a big interruption, I would just keep going and keep calling it a 2+ day fast with a hiccup. I’ve done the exact same thing, thoughtlessly grabbing some cashews or whatever and realizing I had accidentally broken my fast in the course of like 20 seconds.

Semi-similarly, I had been planning on breaking a 2 day fast recently. I was on a trip, so thought I’d enjoy some junk food at a diner… big mistake. It quickly got me overly full, and then made me sick to the point that I lost all the food. I was then so disgusted with food that I kept the fast going for another day, which has now evolved into 6 more days so far.

Keep strong, don’t worry about the hiccups. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

That happened to me and some people here didn’t believe it was an accident hahaha. I just continued, you won’t maxxed the benefits, but there are still benefits. That happened to me more than once precisely because I’m starting with fasting and I realized how much of a snacker I am. I’m getting better with it, it’s just a habit that you need to train yourself to stop.
