Dry fasting is generally not done for long durations like water fasting.Since you aren’t drinking water, you are also not excreting your electrolytes as much as when you are water fasting. Also, dry fasting generally calls for being in. Relaxed state, as such you dont loose much in terms of sweat either.
I’m not even sure that electrolytes get depleted THAT fast in a healthy fasting person. I got banned from r / fasting for trying to discuss this, but I’m heavily influenced by the Soviet / Russian approaches to fasting and there is no talk of electrolytes at all. Even more, salt is not re-introduced into one’s diet preferably for weeks after a fast.
Over the last 1.5 years I have done 9 or 10 7-day fasts without electrolytes, and each fast has been easier and easier. The longest fast was 4DF+6WF. So I’m not beating any records, and I plan to maintain the 7-10 day range without going longer. But at this length I have always felt really well and had no side effects.
I believe that a huge part of one’s well-being during a fast is a placebo effect / psychological. For example, if you read r / fasting, you will see that electrolytes are a cure-all for almost any fasting side effect. On the Russian language fasting sites, where noone takes electrolytes, an enema is a cure-all. So basically whatever we believe will make us feel better, makes us feel better. Maybe while fasting we are particularly succeptible to the “mind-over-body” strategy. Which is actually great.
i did 9 and half days DF and no problem related to elettrolytes.
It really depends on your starting state.
If you really think you need them take, as already stated, a good bath with added minerals: it’s up to you.
The way I see it is this. Your kidneys work to balance your electrolytes over time. They do this by expelling excess minerals/water when you pee. If you consume no water and no electrolytes, each time you pee, your blood becomes cleaner and more balanced, and you do continue to pee while dry fasting FYI. This means your electrolytes will quickly become perfectly balanced when you dry fast. No need to take anything just let your organs do their job.
The real worry when dry fasting is sweating too much and getting dehydrated. so, as long as you stay out of the sun and take it easy you’ll be fine. Don’t worry about supplements, just let your body balance and heal itself.
I’m a religious trace mineral taker! I tried my first dry 24 hour fast recently and it was easier than expected. I think if you are topped with electrolytes the night before and you’re not physically active you will be okay without them.
Just use a dry fast as a time to reset from everything you normally consume.
