This is so dumb but can someone explain electrolytes to me?
Background: 37, one year past the birth of my third kid. I did 18:6 after the second and had great results but I’ve been doing 18:6 for a few weeks now and not seeing the same this time around. I might still be in crazy hormone town since I’ve only just gotten my first period after weaning. However, I’d like to try longer fasts to start feeling and looking like my old self sooner. I am getting back into crossfit and currently doing an endurance rowing program before I hopefully drop some weight and get back into running again.
I understand the concept of electrolytes. But what do I actually purchase? I take a Thorne prenatal every evening before bed. Is that enough for a 24h+ fast or should I be buying something to dissolve in my water throughout the day? If yes, what do I buy? What do I avoid?
Thank you!!
Answer
I think it’s unnecessary for anything 24hrs or less, unless you’re exercising. This is from personal experience! By all means make some and sip throughout the day if you want. A recipe I use is:
2L water
1 tsp potassium chloride (bought mine from iHerb)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt (I use himalayan because that’s what i have)
1/2 tsp food grade Epsom salts (this is your magnesium sulphate)
