Extended Water Fasting and Prayer

Hey I’m just curious. I’ve read stories about how people water fast for spiritual reasons, and they say they can actually feel and “hear” God when praying. Is this at all true or just some superstition type thing? If you have any stories I’d love to hear them. Thanks!

Answer

I did a five day fast last year and on the last couple days it felt very slightly psychedelic. Someone also gave me advice before starting it that food is a way to mask a lot of things so lots of emotions might come up. The key was to just feel yourself through them. For me, fasting was as much a mental/spiritual cleanse as it was physical.

Answer

When your not clogged up and your body can function at its best then everything will work better.

And yes, your body is meant to connect to the what you can’t see with your eyes and we are built to be empathic and tune into energy.

If you want to make spiritual connections to unseen, deities, entities a fasted state will help you to do this.

I think Jesus was an extreme faster…40Days in the desert…because he wanted to connect to God and he knew fasting was the way.

Religion gets it confused and fasting becomes a penance and their fasting doesn’t serve it’s potential because they are not even looking or care to look:

But if you want to connect to Allah, God, Jesus, Mohamed, Moses, Rumi, Khalil Gibran, Mary Magdalene, Timothy Leary, Rom Das, or Mr Rodgers, fasting can help you achieve this.

It takes some practice to know how it works though.

Answer

Yes I’ve had this experience! My mind is so much clearer while fasting. I feel so much closer to God I feel his presence and have had a revelation while fasting I also have so much more clarity when reading the Bible

Answer

My life was at a directionless crossroads following an exceptionally brutal upheaval of what I had grown accustomed to. Halfway through a 21-day fast, I had a tremendous blessing come my way. Literally life changing. I was truly desperate.

Would be happy to discuss this further with anyone. Feel free to DM.

Answer

Superstition combined with how certain people’s brains/biology work. It’s likely just the electro-chemical make up of their own specific biology making them believe things that aren’t necessarily true. Similar to how a schizophrenic can hear, see, and feel people that aren’t necessarily there. It all comes down to how biology dictates our interpretation of the world.

Answer

Faith is good, many people do well when they have a belief in something greater than themselves. As far as hearing/seeing God, I suppose it’s possible during a fast when your body is out of it normal levels of hormones. I’ve also met people without arms that swear they still feel them. ¯\_༼ •́ ͜ʖ •̀ ༽_/¯

Answer

I’m spiritual, not religious, and feel a lot more connected to God and I feel their presence more strongly when I’m intermittent fasting (max I’ve done is 48 hours) versus when I’m eating a lot of processed foods and not fasting.

Answer

Religion is just a mass mental illness. If a non religious person said they weren’t eating and were hearing voices they’d be Baker acted and put in a mental institution. But if somebody says it’s God then it’s seen as perfectly normal. It’s not normal.

Answer

I read the bible and found it doesn’t make any sense. smh

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” Mark 9:50

Answer

About 2-3 weeks into fasting, there’s a euphoria I usually experience. I believe everything religion teaches has underlying meaning that we simply do not have the context to understand when taken at face value.

Answer

I barely made it through a 24 water fast. Anyone doing it longer than that is probably hearing the voice of their body asking for food. I’m not a religious man so I can’t really answer the question in whole. But, it’s a mental game and can probably make you rely on your religion more than normal. So you may “hear” your deity talking.

Answer

when i was detoxing during my first 4 days fast i defiantly felt more “introspective and spiritual”. anyone who leans heavily into religion or anything else would feel “something” they could not define and might think that way.

you can feel very clear headed and more observant.
