Fasting 6 days eat on the 7?

Answer

Where you diabetic when you did your last one? If not, this might be a very dangerous thing to do with diabetes. Especially while taking metformin. I would honestly check in with your dr before attempting one this long to see if you should be adjusting medication or if your blood sugar levels are stable enough to attempt this.

For a rolling fast series, I’d recommend against it. You might be able to sustain it, but it’s a lot.

Currently I’m fasting 3 days, eat a meal or two, fast another 2 days, eat a meal or two. Down nearly 40 pounds. Good to eat a bunch of protein in the interim to make sure you’re keeping up bone density and maintaining lean muscle.

If you can pull six, do six. But don’t be afraid to toss in a meal or two when it makes sense.

If you’re type 2, you shouldn’t have much worry of a hypo episode since you’ll likely not be taking in a lot of carbs. But also, don’t eat a much of carbs on your refeed. You’ll hate yourself if you do, possibly for more than one reason.

I’ve dryfasted for 5 days and my advice is only do these types of long term fasts once in a while, as in 2-3 times a year. They are great to push through a plateau or to reset your digestive system, maybe kill off the bad bacteria in your gut, but this is not something you want to do on a regular basis. Do your research, and know how to break your fast. You’ll need to protect your gut when you do start eating again and you can’t just eat anything right away. IF is popular because of how accessible it is, but longer fasting needs to be taken a bit more seriously 👍

I just did it for three weeks and honestly I felt great the whole time. I made sure to eat a lot (like 3 or 4,000 kcal) on eating days but it was low carb.

I would have done another week because I felt so good but I thought I was starting to lose too much muscle so I’ve been eating regular low carb for two weeks now and I plan on getting back to IF on Monday.

I lost about 30 lbs and I’ve put back 8 lbs in the last two weeks of eating regular.

Edit: my advice is only do it for as long as you feel strong. I wanted to keep going but I was afraid it wasn’t safe. I probably wouldn’t recommend more than two weeks at a time because you really want to keep as much muscle and bone as possible.

Answer

Once every couple of months that’d be fine, otherwise you’d just be hurting yourself. It’s quite literally impossible to eat enough calories and nutrients in a single day that you’d otherwise eat in a week, which will inevitably cause severe malnutrition.
