Fasting and Blocked Salivary Glands

About 15 years ago I had some swelling in my right salivary glands. I had it biopsied, and they said it was most likely just the result of a blocked salivary gland. Since then the swelling went away, but it always comes back if I fast or just go a long time without chewing. The area around the salivary gland will swell up until I start eating or chewing something, and then it will go away over the course of 5-20 minutes until it's back to normal. I would like to use IF, but there's no way I can go long without chewing something. I have looked around for plain gum that doesn't contain any kind of sweetener or artificial sweetener that I could chew on, but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone know of anything I could do to maintain a fast and still be able to chew something without breaking the fast and losing benefits?

Answer

You can order dried licorice root to chew on Amazon. Its not calorie less but might be an alternative. Falim flavorless gum reports no sugar and the ingredients list doesn’t have listed any artificial sweeteners.

Answer

Thanks for the feedback and advice.

I’ve always wondered if treating regular sugar free or sugar alcohol (ie. xylitol) gum like chewing tobacco and constantly spitting out would work?

I would like to get the full benefits out of fasting–not just fat loss, blood sugar, etc.–but also the benefits like resting the MMC complex, immune system, etc. So I want to make sure I can somehow find a way to do this perfectly while still being able to chew something.
