Fasting for ceremony

Finished a 51-hour fast yesterday. It was perfect timing, as I met with a traditional elder that afternoon at exactly 48hrs in, and fasting helps us connect spiritually during ceremonies (Anishinaabek). I received my traditional name and clan, which is a huge honor and gift, and helps me to move forward in learning more of our language and customs. So I'm very grateful that I could go to the ceremony fasted. I can introduce myself to my land and my ancestors in a spirit fire feast, which I have been waiting to do since we bought this home/property. Waabshkibineshiikwe ndizhinikaaz, Ajijaak ndoodem. I am White Bird Woman, of the Crane clan.

I would love to know more. I am of wonderbread heritage and I admire the connection to your heritage. I have so very many that I could pick from any but it all seems confusing. I absolutely admire that you got into your culture.

Congratulations to you, this is amazing! I am interested to know if your ceremonial fast was aligned with the winter solstice intentionally? If so, what significance did fasting during the winter solstice mean to you?
