Fasting while in college

I’m considering doing some longer fasts having 16:8’d multiple times over the past few years and finding it really beneficial. I’ve restarted 16:8’s again recently, with numerous 20+ hour fasts, and want to extend it into 3-5 day fasts but as I am studying quite an intensive engineering course, I cannot afford to struggle with focus, retaining information or general moodiness. Does anyone have any advice to combat these while doing a longer fast? Any vitamins, electrolytes, or other supplements I can look into would be amazing. Thank you

I also simply reduce fasting time if I’m not feeling well leading up to exams, although personally I tend to perform better fasted. Worst one was definitely a doctoral exam I took three months ago while 5 days fasted, not fun at all lol.

Don’t do this. I just ended a 7 day fast on day 6 because it had an absolutely unbearable effect on my energy levels, despite following all of the electrolyte/supplement/exercise regiments strictly. Doing long fasts right now will make you perform worse in your classes, almost guaranteed. Long fasting is just too too distracting compared to intermittent fasting. Intermittent requires basically zero attention and upkeep besides a few glasses of water at night and in the morning, and you will still lose weight over time. Trust me, I lost a ton of weight doing intermittent fasting the past year leading up to this point. It is infinitely easier than long fasts.

I’d really recommend holding off until the summer etc, when you would have a lot of free time that you’d be able to take on something that could potentially be a large challenge without it distracting you from classes, which could potentially cost you a lot of time and money if you ended up performing poorly. It’s just not worth it.
