Fasting with an active job?

I've had success with fasting previously, but I've seemed to have hit a block with my current situation. I'm happily down to 85kg after starting an active job nearly two years ago, but have plateaued. I've previously fasted for better control of my weight and now I'm keen to resume. My job is a recycling driver/ loader in South Wales, so I'm doing a lot of walking, running and lifting, but I'm hesitant to fast for fear of not having enough energy and concentration to do my job safely. If anyone has any help or advice I'd be really grateful! EDIT: Thanks for all the helpful feedback, it's very much appreciated folks!

Answer

I don’t have advice for you unfortunately as I work a desk job but you might get better advice if you include what kind of fasting you’ve done before and what you’re interested in doing now. Are we talking IF? 24-72 hour water fasts? Extended fasts? What’s the deal?

IF might work well for you in your situation.

You probably won’t run into any issues just doing Time Restricted Eating (16-8, 18-6, 20-4) or even OMAD. Though to be extra safe I’d try and start it when you have 2 or more days off in a row, just so you get used to it a little.

Honestly, 18:6 has made work easier for me. I’d like to do something longer, but I’m worried about energy, and I’ve found its really tough to fast without work as a distraction. sounds like people take it easy on 3+ day fasts, but still work out on fasts shorter than that? Idk, my goal is to shoot for 24+ next time I get a day off, test the waters. Please post if you beat me to it. I’d love do a week-long fast, but I’d have to do it while working.

But 18:6 is a breeze…I’m lighter and more level-headed thru the day and I get plenty of calories in for the next day. I do a semi keto kind of diet (had a bad sugar crash experience early on) and keep snacks on hand just in case. I also sip electrolytes thru the day. You haven’t mentioned the type of fasting you’re into, but IF is definitely in your wheelhouse.

Edit: I should correct this to specify this us for work your body is already adapted to. Might be better to eat regularly on days youre experiencing am increased physical load or learning new things.

Answer

Just eat a big breakfast. You might have to drop calories even if you go one meal a day.

If your trying to do an extended fast I would try to start on the day before a day-off.Ex. If you Work Mon-FridayEat last meal Friday morning then break fast on Sunday.

I wouldn’t recommend breaking fast on a day you are working(monday morning) because you might end up having to use the restroom a lot while your body readjust to normal digestion.
