I fast with no restrictions. I just make sure I’m not pigging out during my window, but other than that, I eat whatever. I haven’t stepped on a scale in a few months, but last I checked, I was getting close to losing 50 pounds. I’m probably past that now. I started last July, if that helps.
I’ve been eating whatever I want and I’ve lost over 50 lbs. I’ve got 15 lbs to go to “normal” weight. My weight loss has slowed way down though. I might have to watch some calories if I want to get to “normal”.
At this point I eat what I want but I don’t eat anything that’s crazy. For example I know I can’t be polishing a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. I know I shouldn’t be eating to the point that I’m uncomfortably full.
It’s working so far. I’m 18:6. I also do 45-60 min of cardio almost every day.
Yes, you can still lose weight.
My first run of IF (16/8) was eating whatever I wanted while doing 3 full body weight training sessions a week. I ate whatever I wanted, gained about 10 pounds of muscle, while also going from 210 to 193 over an 8 month period.
Here’s the problem though. My garbage diet was still contributing to chronic illnesses that I was not aware of. 5 years later, I’m a pre-diabetic with high cholesterol. So now I’m working on fixing that.
I don’t have a specific fasting window i just make sure I do at least 16 daily. Honestly it’s probably garbage but I’ve eaten baconators and blt quarter pounders have lost 10 pounds in a month and now I look jacked cause I used to weight lift all the time.
Yeah. You definitely see changes but it’s not quite as amazing as when you fast and eat better. And keep in mind that keto is not for everyone. My doctor is fantastic but he kept pushing Keto. I kept refusing because I had tried keto a few years ago with some friends. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. Right from the start, I felt like I was dying. Pure evil coming out of me, splitting migraines, and zero energy in the tank.
I took a couple genetic tests and it turns out that I benefit from a higher carb diet than most people. Get to know your body. See what works and what doesn’t. What foods make you feel better (not just physically but emotionally as well). Turns out my favorite food has actually been one of the most beneficial for my body all along.

A 16:8 fast with no restrictions would be useless for me. 8 hours is enough time for me to casually consume 5000 calories and not even feel bad. Hell, even with OMAD i gave to be mindful of my meal. Leftover pizza, leftover chinese, some other stuff, some dessert could all be a part of the “meal”. And I’d blow way past my max calories.
You gotta put good things in your body regardless of your feeding window.
