Does anyone weigh heavier the week of their period without making changes in the times/amounts eaten?
I’d like to think it’s hormones to blame but would like to know what others experience is.
Answer
I’m ttc so I’m religiously tracking my cycle and here’s what I found:
- around ovulation (20 days after the start of my period) I reach peak weight, no matter how much carbs I ate or how much I fasted the days prior
- a few days after ovulation, as progesterone levels rise, I feel bloated, again no matter how much carbs I ate or how much I fasted the days prior. I also start craving carbs like a mad lady and fasting is usually off the table. Because of the cravings but also because mood swings start to creep in and I’m an emotional eater
- then when my period arrives I feel how my normal self starts to come back and my cravings disappear. This is when I usually start IF again and start seeing the weight drop off. I say IF because I’m still a little afraid of how a >24h fast will affect my fertility
Hope this helps.
Answer
Yes. One of the main reasons I think it’s unfair for women to compare with men’s fasting results. I see so many guys lose weight quickly on 16:8 and I only lose eating once every 42 hours. During end of cycle I can’t get the scale to budge at all.
Answer
I gain almost exactly 4lbs 2-3 days prior to my period starting. It remains pretty much stable for about 4 days and then drops back down by 4lbs.
I’ve stuck at my body’s set weight for weeks now so I know what my average weight is and on a 3 weekly cycle it shoots up and then back down.
I’m on the pill partly for birth control but mainly to keep my PCOS under control.
