First Dry Fast - I'm surprised.

I'm a pretty experienced water faster, but dry fasting always seemed dangerous, bizarre, and on the rare chance I tried it, I couldn't go more than 12-14hrs tops. However, after some of the research studies that have been done on dry fasting, I decided to give it a very gentle go. My first goal was 12 hours. I felt okay, so pushed it to 24. Still felt okay, so went to 36. I'm currently around the 38hr mark. Gonna try to go to 48 and see how I feel. If I feel okay, I may go to 56 before transitioning to a water fast. I guess what I'm most surprised about is that I feel okay. Almost better than I do when I'm water fasting. No obsessive thoughts of food. My mind feels surprisingly clear. I have a very slight headache, but it's almost negligible. I can already tell that I'm deep in ketosis due to the taste of ketones in my mouth. Normally I don't feel them this strongly until around 72hrs of water fasting. My urine is getting darker as the dehydration occurs, so I'm keeping an eye on how my kidneys feel, and if they start to feel taxed I'll transition to water. But overall, I am surprised at how decent I feel.

Nice! I think the way it minimizes food cravings is possibly the best benefit. The only thing that makes me stop is getting headaches which usually only happens around the 22hour mark anyway. I might try pushing through next time, though I don’t have much fat.

That’s so great to hear! I’m currently at 52h and doing great. I’ll probably DF until around 68-72h and will transition to a water fast for the total of 7 days. Dry fasts always surprise me as I feel so well on a short dry fast.

I was able to do my first 48 hours dry fast last weekend and my urine was still clear. One of the reasons I started to doubt about the color of pee being an indication of dehydration…

I didn’t feel that well tho. It was the same feeling that I got on my three day water fast last year. Very lethargic, low mood, low energy and a very STRONG taste of amonia in the mouth..
