First extended Dry Fast

I began my first extended Dry Fast on Friday, 1/15 @ 10:00pm. I did a 36-hour Dry Fast and had a horrible headache most of the time. I would like to go for 7 days, but I don’t know if I can. I’m new to dry fasting, but not to extended fasting. My longest water fast has been 85 hours. Anyone else jump in so quickly to a longer dry fast? I’m feeling okay right now, almost 48 hours in. I’m hungry and have a very mild headache. I took a nap yesterday and today because I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Answer

I jumped in super quick. A headache can be signs of many things. Dehydration, starting ketosis, eliminating toxins, etc. Why don’t you think you can make it to seven days? I started at 2 then went to 3 and then 6. My last one was 8. I’m shooting for 12 next time. 12 will be my highest o try. It’s a willpower thing for me. I just want to prove to myself I can do it.

Answer

I purchased some liquid Mega Multivitamin and plan to mainly follow the reintroduction plan outlined in the book, “The Phoenix Protocol”, I know refeeding can be dangerous.

If I make it to 7 days (Friday), I still don’t plan to eat solid food until at least Monday, maybe Tuesday and I will eat paleo for at least a week following the end of my Dry Fast.

Answer

I am over 66 hours in and feeling okay.

I had the day off work, so I made 10 freezer meals. That was a little tough to cook that much while dry fasting.

I have had some intense low back pain today (went for a 2 mile walk this morning). Not sure what that’s about, I don’t think it’s kidney pain as it feels more like musculoskeletal.

Took another nap today, had a hard time staying asleep last night.

Looks like I will make it through Day 3, onto Day 4!

Oh, yeah, I’m down 6.5 pounds so far.

Answer

Headaches are usually indication of detoxing carbs, sugar, caffeine. The nerves in the brain swell during withdrawal. But yes they usually disappear around 40 hours If you ride it out. Dry fasting kills inflammation. I usually start to feel a little blissed out if I do some stretching around 40 hours or so after any headaches subside. Our body is a miracle that has the ability to heal itself. Your cells literally start attacking and eating any and all toxins in the body during a dry fast. If you don’t have any underlying conditions there is no reason to believe that a dry fast is dangerous unless you are doing beyond three days. Anything beyond 3 days you should definitely closely monitor and you really need to be careful about refeeding, but you aren’t going to die. Miraculous things start to happen in the body just listen to your body but don’t be afraid to try to push yourself and be uncomfortable unless you really really feel awful 🥵 Don’t let people scare you by saying it’s dangerous. There is so much information on this, I suggest Sergey Filinov’s book 20 questions. You can get it on Kindle. Happy Fasting!!

Answer

I just passed the 90 hour mark (Day 4). Today has been a little rough because I worked all day and had to talk a lot.

I have a little bit of a headache and feel drowsy, but other than that, I feel good.

I walked a mile during my lunch break today.

Plan on rolling onto Day 5!

(This is the longest I’ve ever fasted!)

Answer

102 hours in, start of Day 5. Can’t sleep.

Dreamt only of water. Just going to the fridge, filling a glass with ice, eating all the ice, then going back and filling it with ice and water and drinking it. Over and over again. That was my whole dream!

I’m not missing coffee or food, just water.

Answer

111 hours in (Day 5). I think this has been the hardest day, honestly. My thirst is crazy. I’m not hungry at all, but I can not stop thinking about water.

I feel like the narrator of “A River Runs Through It” . . . “I am haunted by waters.”

Please tell me this will pass, I’m not sure I can do this for another two days with this level of thirst.

Down 12lbs total as of this morning.

Answer

131 hours in (Day 6). No dreams of water because I barely slept (maybe two hours).

It’s foggy out, so I have already had two 1-mile walks outside, will take another one at lunch.

Not hungry at all, but would do about anything for a glass of water.

Down 15.6 pounds total as of this morning.

Planning on pushing through to complete Day 7!

(Edited with correct weight loss amount.)

Answer

135 hours in. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Still so, so thirsty.

I spent some time looking up infused water recipes for next week.

I will continue as a water fast through at least Monday and then evaluate how I feel then.

Still not hungry and any cravings I’ve had for unhealthy foods are gone. The only thing I am really craving (other than water) is watermelon and grapefruit.

I absolutely can not wait to drink a glass of ice water on Saturday, I can barely think of anything else.

Thanks for listening!

Answer

142 hours in (end of Day 6). Doing okay. Lower back pain is back.

I bought a bunch of different brands of water today for Saturday. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I opened two of them and smelled them. 😂

I think I could never eat again as long as I could drink water. That’s how I feel anyway.

One more day, I think I’m going to make it!!!

Answer

Please realize this isn’t a race. A headache is a symptom of dehydration. You need to acclimate your body to dry fasting. 36 hours is a more than a great start and I would cut it off. There’s absolutely no need to shoot to the moon and frankly it’s dangerous for your first dry fast. No matter who has done it, it’s simply survivorship bias. It’s like jumping into a marathon on your second day of running.
