Gained back my loss

I started my 72hr fast on Friday. 32hrs wet, 40 hrs dry. Went from 250.8 down to 240.4. I’ve done IF the past couple of days preparing for another fast. Suddenly I’m back up to 250 and my measurements are up higher than 2 weeks ago. What gives?

Answer

Don’t ever stress the scale weight. You’re going to have crazy fluctuations after breaking a fast because of the actual mass of the food, water/sodium retention, carbs holding water, overall rehydration etc. as long as you’re eating at a deficit everyday on your eating days, you will be losing actual fat weight no matter what. And yea water weight will easily add a small amount to your measurements. If I lose 14 pounds on a 7 day fast I know i will be at least 4-6 pounds heavier after a refeed, but it’s not fat.

The trick is to keep fasting. 72s only work if you have the discipline to do a 72, have one meal and roll back into a 72 and keep going like that forever. One thing that always worked for me was a 5 day snake juice fast every week. In the remaining 2 days I could eat absolutely anything, I simply couldn’t make up for the huge calorie deficit, so I would lose body fat even with junk food on eating days.

Answer

Sounds like water retention to me. I remember a few years ago when I started I was 220. I fasted for 5 days then ate 2 days (only the weekend). To be totally honest I was also taking SARMs and working out every day. Not for the faint of heart as I felt like shit every day. And yet, when I re-fed on the weekend I’d go from 209 back up to 222 lol. This happened for four weeks and then all of a sudden I lost 45 lbs in the following 6 weeks out of no where. Don’t underestimate the amount of stress that fasting puts on the body initially, this along with carb refeeds will cause massive amounts of water retention. Our bodies are designed to resist drastic changes and maintain balance. The shock of fasting Will cause us to hold on to everything especially water to resist. Will take some time for your body to readjust and flush everything out. To stay motivated I just kept telling myself that it’s literally impossible for me to eat more in two days than the deficit I was creating in 5 days. Turns out I was right lol.
