I did some hardcore waterfasts in the past (24 days was the longest one) and I felt great and know what to expect at each step. However 2 years ago I got my gallbladder removed due to serious inflammation. Since then, my liver starts aching when I don't eat regularly or skip a meal. Even 20/4 fasting is problematic as the whole area that was operated on is acting up... I don't want to stress my bile ducts and risk any further damage to it. But I really need the fast both physically and mentally. Not sure if to go with it or not.
Ofcourse visiting a doctor didn't help since the majority of them has only procedural education and no bladder means eat 6 meals a day and get rid of fat in your diet. I saw 2 doctors and asked them about it and both said fasting is not good for the people that had the gallbladder removed.
Answer
Did you lose some serious weight before your gallbladder problems? Or did you do an extended fast (5+ days)? There are studies that show that doing either of these can increase your risk for gallbladder problems a lot. A lot of people stop fasting because of the problems it makes, and the reason you don’t hear about it in this sub is a lot of them stop fasting all together.
