Being able to sit still and being ok with “being bored” are incredibly beneficial skills to have for a few reasons. Use this time to practice doing things just for the sake of doing them. Go for a walk or drive somewhere and drive back. You don’t always have to be eating, shopping, socializing etc. Your brain will thank you.
I think this is the perfect time to work on you! Think about a project you’ve been putting off, maybe a book you wanted to read, (I usually re-read The complete Guide to fasting while doing an extended fast to remind myself why I am doing this) try to find something that will keep the mind and/or body busy.
i’ve gotten used to being around other people eating while fasting lol, but there are plenty of sociable things to do besides eating. as you mentioned, shopping. lately I’ve been a fan of the arcade and movies. It’s nice to just go for a walk if it’s warm enough. I also pack my alone time with tons of chores. I’ve been quite productive while fasting, moreso than usual
I never understood not being social while fasting. A couple days ago I had water while my family killed a huge nacho tray that I prepared!
I’d probably never fast if I couldn’t see my friends and family during.
Invite a friend to a movie (say you’re already full from dinner so don’t need a snack). Go to a movie by yourself. Invite a friend on a walk. Go to a museum by yourself or with a friend. Go thrift shopping. Go to a library and read a book.
I bought Pokémon just to kill time with when I’m deep in a fast. Unfortunately I don’t really enjoy video games that much anymore. But just an idea. Maybe spend some of that money you’re saving on food on something to distract you.
