First,
>Is it a valid reason to stop a waterfast because of nausea? Or should i have continued?
Why are you fasting? Without knowing, it’s hard to tell you.
If your purpose for fasting was to torture yourself, then you should have kept going. Otherwise, YES BREAK YOUR FAST. You should not feel nausea other than perhaps a brief moment.
One of the most common causes of nausea is not having enough electrolytes. So, make sure you supplement with electrolytes.
If I feel off I eat. I can restart my fast when I feel better. I recommend you consider a similar policy.
Always better to be cautious. Not sure for the reasoning of fasting, but you can always try a cup of broth and see if that makes you feel well enough to resume the fast. If the goal is weight loss, it won’t hinder progress. Might hunter autophagy, if that’s the goal, but a small cup of broth and resuming fasting will put you quickly back into autophagy.
I think 5 days is very very good. From my experience even if you take electrolytes, after 5 days you’ll feel like you’re walking in treacle. No smile. No sex drive. No focus on anything except the challenge really.
Listen to your body & break that fast. Fasting is not even supposed to be uncomfortable, let alone feeling nauseated.
I break fasts all the time for various reasons & I never feel bad about it because, I know that I’m doing well with this. I feel better & look better than I did before I learned to fast.
I’m doing this for the rest of my life & there’s no rush.
I used to suffer with nausea alot!! Actually went to AandE once! I had to experiment. I found salt in my water made me nauseous, i only have salt on food and it turned out the magnesium was what I needed..I increased my intake and that made my stomach upset, decreased it a bit and then boom, after a few weeks I finally hit the right level.. some people can take pills, didnt help me, I need a liquid form in my water.. it’s very hard to say do this or that I found - read alot and then it’s pure trial and error.. I felt.. good luck!
I get heartburn when I water fast, but I started adding fiber to my water once a day and the heart burn disappeared. I have never experienced nausea though. I glad you put health before an arbitrary fast goal!
Things I added for comfortable fast are, multivitamin, electrolytes, and fiber.
