I’m not overly shy about fasting, but yeah it’s tricky when people spout such blantant outdated information. I would probably say something like “I find it better to just only eat when I’m hungry. That’s a pretty outdated myth about metabolism.”
As a side note, also have ADHD and finding the right med and dose this past month has been a lifesaver for me for helping curb my impulsive eating tendencies.
I have ADHD and I’m a little worried about what the conversation with my doctor will be like. One thing I have learned about myself (thanks, Gretchen Rubin!) is that I’m an abstainer, not a moderator. My ADHD means I don’t always have a lot of time between impulse and action, so plans like keto and IF work for me because there are rigid guidelines for when+what I eat. Anything with lots of decision points and lots of wiggle room isn’t going to work. I can always choose to be flexible when I need to, but those hard limits are the only things that keep me on track!
Is it normal for a psychiatrist treating you for anything, umm ESPECIALLY an eating disorder, to be giving out dietary advice? I am willing to be convinced away from my instinctive response, which is abject horror. Seems insanely unethical and unprofessional.
