Healing from Diverticulosis

Hi fellow fasters, I (30F) have had an amazing experience fasting, ive lost more than 55 lbs, reduced all of my PCOS symptoms and feel a ton better. This weekend got married to the love of my life and felt better than I have in years! He (31M) on the other hand was feeling awful right up until the day of the wedding. He was diagnosed with diverticulosis about 5 years ago and was having a diverticulitis flare up :(. He fasted a few days before the wedding a felt a lot better by our day. This got me thinking, does anyone have any experience with fasting to heal from Diverticulosis? Id love to hear your experiences and thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Answer

I had a really bad flare up about 5 years ago that caused a small tear in my intestines. The dr. wanted to do a resection on my intestines and then put in a colostomy bag until I could get rid of the infection. I really really did not want a colostomy bag and asked him if there was a chance that the tear could heal itself without surgery and he told me that the only way that that would have a chance of working was for me to go on a liquid diet but even then the chance was small. He wasn’t wild about it but I really did not want that bag. I basically went on an liquid diet for 14 days while being monitored in the hospital. The tear healed and with large doses of antibiotics I was able to beat the infection. After I got out of the hospital I started to fast for 24hrs once a week, more if I felt the signs of a flare up coming on. It has been 4yrs since my last flare up and I am able to maintain a healthy weight.

I also have diverticulitis and believe fasting is a great way to help with diverticulitis. I don’t think you can cure it, but it can certainly help once you start to feel the symptoms. Essentially, you are just letting you intestines/colon to rest and heal. The clue if times I have had it, it took about 2 days of fasting and it went away.

Another with Diverticulosis here.

To be honest, while I feel like fasting definitely isn’t the only way to prevent or ease a flare-up, it definitely is the best way.

If I feel a flare up coming on (its a pretty distinctive pain in a pretty specific part of my abdomen) I start to fast immediately. If I don’t eat anything solid from the moment I start to feel that tinge of pain, it doesn’t progress past that and usually is gone in 1 or 2 days.

So to answer your question, yes. Fasting is incredible for diverticulosis/itis. The Aloe Vera drinks seem to help for me personally too, plus they’re tasty.
