its a mental barrier you have to get over, of course you are biologically wired to want to eat when you’re hungry. just remember ultimately you are in control, and if you have enough willpower to want to lose weight you will make the right choice
I’d start somewhere really easy - like if you wake up at 8, fast until 12. If that’s too much, then 11. Then when you reach the point that it’s easy, push that window back an hour. Stay just at the edge of your comfort zone and you’ll find your tolerance grows in a way that isn’t overwhelming.
We’ve trained our whole lives to be almost scared of hunger. I also found it basically impossible when I first started, but now I’m comfortably fasting multiple days at a time. Baby steps.
What is your motivation? I find my motivation, and I dedicate myself to it. When you think about eating, think about your motivation. Get a reminder of it. Something small. A post-it note on your fridge. A picture on your phone. A bracelet. Something that will stop you in your tracks when you think about eating. Whether that’s a picture of yourself because you’re unhappy with your body. Or a picture of someone/something else that you want to attain if you had better health.
>we are taught our whole lives to eat when we’re hungry?
Not true for many Americans. 3 meals per day, maybe 2 snacks. This is reinforced in school and the most common eating schedule. The hunger hormone ghrelin aligns with eating patterns, not this 3 meals per day and maybe 2 snacks regiment that stands to benefit through Big Ag, Big Sugar, Big Medicine affecting nutrition policy taught in school. Fortunately, ghrelin only lasts about 2 hours max. Eventually, ghrelin release is retrained to your fasting schedule.True hunger can hit on extended fasts, but you shouldn’t be fasting that deeply. Personally, 3 day fasts are my max. Stomach rumbling is just gases moving around. Unpavlovian your response to it.
It’s definitely mental and I use bone broth sometimes to help. I use it after a holiday like Thanksgiving where I’ve been eating longer than usual and want to ease my body back into extended fasting. I also do sparkling water because I don’t like flat water and drinking helps me feel full.
