How fast is too fast?

Hi all. My partner and I started IF (16/8) at the beginning of the year (getting married later on this year) when I (35/M/1.85m) weighed 112.8kg. We have also stopped eating meat, and generally started eating healthier, more fruit, vegetables, and I’m more hydrated than I’ve ever been, and we’ve been more active, playing sports and walking places rather than driving. I weighed yesterday and was 107.4kg, which means I’ve lost 5.4kg in less than two weeks. I am fully aware that weight loss is quicker in the first couple of weeks, or at least generally that is what I have found with other diets, but, I’m going to be okay arent I? Has anyone else seen such dramatic weight loss at the beginning?

Answer

You can’t lose 5,4 kgs of fat in a couple weeks without juice, so it’s a mix of fat, muscle, water.. you’re gonna be ok though. I’d probably soften this fat loss phase a little by adding a little more calories. That way you can keep more muscles e and not have much skin loose at the end.

Weight loss is often fast to start with and then slows down. Your body dumps lots of water weight first, and then your body settles down to burning fat, which is slower. So this is normal.

If you keep losing weight this fast for more than a month or two, then see a doctor. But it’s much more likely that this is just the normal fast initial drop of water weight, and things will slow down soon. (Don’t get discouraged when it does slow down!)
