How long did you fast for?

I watched a video of someone fasting for 41 days. I plan to fast for a while but not that long. What's the longest you've gone and how hard is 41 days? Is that even possible?

Answer

65 days, but you have to remember to drink electrolytes and salt. I didn’t, so my body started toThrow up the water. Broke my fast. I’m will be going on another extended fast. I just have to mentally prepare. The last one was in 2019

Answer

40 days. With 5 days prep before and after. It was a full program I paid for and I was guided throughout. I was on a strict schedule of 250ml each of organic herbal teas, organic clear (clear was important) fruit/veg juice and freshly made every 2 days organic veggie broth. It was intensive and time consuming (just making the broth took hours of shopping and prep and cooking and you were not allowed to freeze it because it would ruin the enzymes)

But, after about a week or so I started feeling absolutely incredible. Lost 15kg, felt clear headed, skin looked amazing, my insomnia disappeared and I woke up with a bounce. I would love to do it again someday, but now I shift work and have 2 young kids so I just don’t have the time to make the broth and strain all the juices and time the intake etc etc.

Answer

I did 10 days. Could’ve gone longer, but that was my goal.

The longest water fast on record was over a year, about 380 days I think. But that guy was super obese before he started (about 500 pounds), and had medical supervision with electrolyte supplements etcetera.

For “normal” people, I don’t think going beyond about 2 weeks is necessarily of any particular benefit, nor advisable. Just because it comes with greater risks, and not necessarily any added benefit.

It also depends on how much body fat you have, as one of the other commenters alluded to.

Answer

I have coeliac and with a flare up after a gluten exposure I have to fast until the inflammation stops.

It’s usually 1 week total fast (can’t even drink much water the first couple of days) then 1 week about 500cal/day.

It’s not a choice though, I have to do it because my body won’t take food until it heals.

By the second week I have bad muscle cramping and weakness but again it’s not a prepared fast

(Never believe the old saying that what they don’t know won’t hurt them, gluten hurts bad.)
