How strict do I need to be?

25 (f) here. Is it okay if my feeding window varies? Let’s say I stop eating at different times but just wait 16 hours until I eat next does it matter? I find my schedule changes a lot and it is more challenging to stay within a 12-8 window on the weekends.

Answer

If you’re figuring out a way to go 16 hours (basically eating two meals a day) you’re likely still going to get the benefits of the calorie restriction and see progress.

Fasting on weekends was tough for me early on. But something it made me realize was like I would eat when I was bored. And If I was home during the day or not going on that night I would find myself going to the pantry for a snack.

It’s okay to be flexible. Whatever it takes to stay committed. That’s what is important.

If you keep going eventually you’re not even going to think about food until its time to eat. I’ve been intermittent fasting going on 6 years now and there is barely a time I have the urge to eat during the day anymore.

Good luck!

Looking at an average of total hours fasted for the week is a nice trick. 16:8, 7 days a week is 112 hours fasted. If some days you only do 14-15, try for an 17-18 another.. Ketones, autophagy, high production ect all compound exponentially the longer you’re fasting, soost likely the benefit you will get on those extended fast days will be greater than if you averaged 16:8 each day.. This being if calorie/macro consumption is the same.
