I almost caved in today.....

Exhausted after a week of night shifts, I was extremely tempted to end my fast early this morning after my shift. Thankfully pushed through and told myself to see how I feel after getting some rest. and now going on 18 hrs! Listen to your body, but don't give in right away! Sometimes you need 5 mins (or a 3 hr nap) to clear your mind :)

Listening to your body doesn’t necessarily mean giving in to the urge to break your fast! If I feel the urge to end my fast early, I always try to listen for the real underlying problem. I ask myself “Hang on, will eating really fix the problem here? Or do I need something else — like a nap, or a walk around the block to clear my head, or a work break, or some ibuprofen?”

This really helps with emotional eating. I frequently have the urge to eat when I’m sad or upset, and eating really won’t fix those problems. But it also applies to other stuff. Like, if the problem is that you are sleep-deprived, food won’t fix it! :)
