I don't know if 8-16 suits me...

Hello There, I've been on the 8-16 for a few months now, it's doing work slowly, and I'm under no expectations so seeing any result is good. Thing is, I'm planning to take up an exercise class a few nights a week, and I'm informed that I should avoid intense workouts while fasting. Now the way things stand, I start fasting at 6pm in the evening and stop fasting at 10am the next morning. However, My exercise is set to run from 7pm to about 8pm on the nights that it's running. For those either doing a 8-16 long term or just have better understand than me, What do you suggest I do? I'm happy to answer any and all question you might have to get a better grip on how my lifestyle is. if that's relevant I mean... Thanks for taking the time to skim this. <3

Answer

I’d just go to the class and not worry about it yet. If you find you’re having an adverse effect from not being able to eat after your class you can adjust. I’d say you’d be fine though as you will have just finished eating and should have plenty of energy.

I’ve fallen off the IF train recently but back when I was in a grove I’d run or train in the mornings in a fasted state with no issues.

You could try either… moving your fasting window from 1230 to 830?Or If you leave your eating window 10 - 6 you could try, post excersize having a small portion of protein or just a protein shake?

Answer

Who told you to avoid intense workouts while fasting? Was it your doctor? If so, heed her advice. If not, and you are healthy, you don’t need to avoid exercise especially with a 16:8 fast schedule. You’ll be fine. Just stay hydrated.

If your eating window ends at 6pm, then you’ll still have food in your system when you go to exercise at 7, so you’ll be fine… but if you’re worried about being hungry after the class, you could always shift your fast to start at 9pm, so you can have a snack after exercising/before bed, and then don’t have lunch until 1 pm. Do you really need to start eating at 10am?

Answer

Doing 16:8 shouldn’t be a problem. Actually, a lot of people like to exercise while in a deeper fasted state because energy levels are generally better. I don’t think, unless you are doing long fasts, like 24 hours or more you need to worry about exercise. This was probably told to you with the assumption you are doing long fasts. Otherwise the rest of us who are exercising and doing even shorter eating windows like 20:4 are doing it wrong. 🤷‍♀️

Lots of ppl do OMAD & only eat once a day and do daily strenuous workouts…try it out you’ll likely be fine…if ur not then you can adjust…but it would be a bad idea to eat that late at night after ur class regardless of IF or not…personally I do hardworkouts before I open my window so I can eat after then not again…maybe you’ll find you’d do better exercising on ur own in the morning & still breaking ur fast at 10 or maybe you open ur window at 9 & close it at 5…just play around
