| | Water Fasting

I suck at this fasting thing.

I have tried fasting before and have had some success. I feel I am finally moving in a direction that I am sick of how I look and feel at times. I am curious what people may think is the best fasting window for weight loss. I am only 50 pounds overweight and do not need to lose it quickly. I think 10 pounds a month would be awesome. Thanks for the help and support.

The best fasting window is the one that works with your lifestyle.

I do 16:8, since it works best for mine and my family’s schedule. I take a daily medication best used with food so even if I wanted to, fasting for multiple days is out. I dabbled a little in OMAD, didn’t like how it made me feel, but ultimately have stuck with 16:8.

I started about 11 months ago and lost 40ish pounds. This is the thinnest I’ve been in my adult life (to my knowledge) and the longest I’ve managed to stick to any sort of weight management routine.

Answer

16:8 is a quality start. If you need to ease in, you can ease in on 14:10. Not eating mindlessly at night is the most important part. That and calorie reduction. You will have to try and cut out at least 500 calories a day from your TDEE to start losing a pound a week. It takes more than that to lose 10 pounds a month. So prepare yourself for a journey.

Losing 50 pounds is a lot of work. Don’t underestimate the task, so that you don’t walk away when it gets hard.

Answer

Sounds like you’re plenty motivated to make it stick. It isn’t actually difficult, just needs some time to become a habit.

With the goals you mention I’d guess 16:8 is fine. It’s the one I easily see most often here.
