IF for GI help

Hey y'all! So I actually do not care about weight loss. I've been struggling with GI issues for years now and this is the next thing my doctor has suggested after tons of tests and other things I've tried that haven't helped. I started 16:8 a few weeks ago with my fast window 11 am to 7 pm. I'm still waking up starving in the morning. Today I felt almost shaky with hunger in the morning. It's definitely doesn't feel like just a craving issue. Anyone have any tips for me? I keep looking for info on IF for stomach issues and all the information I found is on what to do for weight loss even though you can find that it's good for regulating your gut but not much about it.

Answer

I started it for help with IBS and GERD. Helps a lot.

I would reevaluate your dinner. Make sure it’s sufficient enough to carry you through. Remember that hunger won’t kill you. Unless you have blood sugar issues you will be fine.

I would definitely recommend talking to your doctor. BUT make sure you’re getting enough healthy fat, carbs, protein, and calories. You can’t really continue a poor diet just because you’re skipping breakfast and hope to see results. (Hope that doesn’t sound rude)

Answer

When I am fasting, I take a multivitamin, get some electrolytes and take creatine. Some get their electrolytes from pills. I sometimes cheat and have 8oz low sodium v8 (not enough cals to really matter IMO). Kills the stomach issue. Coffee tends to aggravate the stomach.

I have had a few years of GI issues. I’ve been to a specialist and have had a bunch of tests, been scoped etc. all came back normal. So they gave me the “ since everything looks normal, it’s probably IBS” diagnosis ….

But I have had ZERO issues since I started IF 3 months ago. Life changer.

I started with 16:8. I ate in the morning. 9:30am- 5:30pm. I’m definitely a morning eater and have no issues not eating at night. I’m doing a dirty 18:6 right now, having a coffee with cream at 9:30am still but no food until 11:30am, still stopping at 5:30pm. Maybe starting your window earlier could work for you ?
