IF on a workout split.

My wife and I are trying to get healthier. We've started a new workout routine and started adding more vegetables and less carbs in our diets. We've both done IF to some degree in the past and liked it, but with our current schedule, I don't know what would be effective. Right now we work out twice a day. This helps us get adequate exercise in a busy schedule while also allowing us to push ourselves harder during each session. We wake up early and do a heavy barbell lift (with an accessory kettlebell/dumbbell lift). After that, we head straight to work. Then in the afternoon, we do a circuit routine with calisthenics and lighter weights, finished by an animal locomotion routine. The issue I'm curious about is, if its optimal to break your fast right after you work out, then we would have to break our fast in the morning. My issue with this is that means our eating window is also our working window. We do window cleaning (see all my window references.....) and are always on the move. I would find it preferable to have at least a chunk of our feasting time not during work hours. In fact, as little during work hours as possible would be ideal as hauling around food and trying to fit in times to eat during our busy days is kind of a pain. Anyone have any suggestions how to juggle this? I'd still like to keep two smaller workouts a day, and keep at least a chunk of my feasting window outside working hours (which is generally 8~4 or 5). Any constructive criticism would be welcome.

Answer

If I workout in the morning ( 1-2 hrs) then work, I eat after.Right now, I work at 5pm so I workout, wait until about 1 or 2, then eat, so my window is 1-3 or 2-4.I do not eat after that window.I don’t work out twice with that big a break in between, so not sure.

That’s why I have to eat before my night shift. So I workout about 9-11 am then wait about 2 hrs is the longest I can go. 1 or 2 pmI currently do a 20:4- been in this time for quit awhile and eat clean 80% of it and keep to this 95% of the year (special occasions I don’t) I work out a minimum of 5days a week.I do lift heavy 3 x week Yoga cycle hike pilates run snowboard Are some fun stuff I do all the time!Have fun.Tweak your times- IF is cool that way- you can make it your own without “blowing” it
