Great suggestion, I did that exact thing last weekend! I began tackling my biggest clutter problem: paper. Sorting and discarding years of unneeded notes, receipts and statements was very cathartic and it occupied my mind for hours. Fasting definitely opens your eyes to all the different types of excess we have in our lives, and the desire to live in a more purposeful way.
I still have plenty of clean-up projects to keep me busy for awhile, so by the time I reach my goal I may never have to tidy again. ;-)
