If you’re wanting to improve and follow IF you’re going to need to get past your crutches. Sugar is a poison, wean yourself off of it. Water is good for you, drink plenty of it. Abd restrict your eating into a small window. I strongly recommend stopping your eating early in the evening.
I liked IF because I could eat what I liked as long as I followed the time restrictions. And my eating habits changed as I progressed. But I came into it liking water and I don’t eat tons of sugar. I do like a Coke Zero or a Diet Dr Pepper once in a while.

Best of luck!
Watch intermittent fasting videos from Dr Eric Berg DC on YouTube. Very motivating and so many helpful tips! Also it helped me to realize if I want to be healthy and feel healthy the only way is to eat healthy natural foods! Makes sense. Prioritizing that nutrient intake but not cutting out foods I love is my only way to ever not give up and binge. That mental attitude that doesn’t feel restricting is so good. And lastly, just start! You’ll never get in the cold pool if you walk in slowly. Just jump in and feel the water! If it’s too cold u can always get out.
Sandman, just by recognizing the issues, you’ve taken a very important step! You are getting to your “Why”…and when a person has a powerful “why”, that will provide huge movement to the desired results.
Now, about that soda pop…that processed sugar is probably more addicting & dangerous than fentanyl! May I suggest you move toward tapering off by limiting yourself how much you consume?
Regarding water…so important for success. There are ways to spruce it up…add some muddled mint or find a tea that is palatable to you.
You got this…I believe in you & your ultimate success!
