Intermittent Fasting and PCOS

\- Regarding to the latest study in the Journal of Translational Medicine (linked below) - 1. What is PCOS Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. It is associated with an increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome, menstrual disorders, hyperandrogenism and infertility. PCOS is often affiliated with insulin resistance, low-grade inflammation, heredity, excess androgen and visceral fat (abdominal). 2. The Journal of Transnational Medicine published a recent study regarding the influence of intermittent fasting (16:8) on women with PCOS. “Since therapeutic options for PCOS are limited to oral contraceptives and metformin, and non-pharmacologic behavioral interventions such as TRF would be welcome additions to therapy for this common disorder.” (Li, C., Xing, C., Zhang, J. *et al.2021)* 3. In the given study 15 women aged between 18 and 31 with PCOS syndrome participated in a 6-week trial incorporating 16:8 and eating their usual diet. 4. The result showed that intermittent fasting improved menstrual cycle irregularity for 11 out of 15 patients. Furthermore, the improvement in body weight, body composition, hyperandrogenemia, insulin resistance and chronic inflammation was observed. 5. Although the study contained small sample and it was taken for a short duration without the controlled group, the results are very promising, showing that Intermittent Fasting may be a great addition for women struggling with PCOS and may be a chance to see further study on that matter. IF has been a life saver for me. Other than the weight loss I’m ovulating for the first time…like ever I think. My heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol and A1C are normal!!! My facial hair has thinned out some and the hair on my head is getting thicker! My periods are lighter and less painful. Luckily I have a super supportive doctor who is now doing her own research into IF so that’s very exciting!

I haven’t been officially diagnosed with PCOS but I have many symptoms (and my naturalpath is convinced). I’ve been taking inositol, and started intermittent fasting (16:9) with little success. My partner has lost 13 pounds and I’m still at the same weight. Anyone else struggling with weight loss? Should I change my window?
