Is 16/8 IF safe to do forever?

Answer

This boils down to the question: “Can humans survive if we don’t eat literally 100% of our waking hours?”

Yeah we can. It’s a sad commentary on society that everyone isn’t already doing 14/10 constantly. 16/8 is barely a stretch past that.

Answer

I’ve always been a OMAD type of person (even as a child). I will never understand the parents that want to have ‘food struggles’ with their children. Unsurprisingly, I’m the only one in my family that doesn’t now struggle with being overweight.

Edit to add: I also am not reliant on any prescription medications. If you eat the ‘typical American diet’ is it really a surprise to anyone that you will suffer from the accompanying ‘typical American diseases’?!

Answer

Of course it is. This is how people used to normally eat.

You can eat 3 meals in 8 hours and end with dinner /dessert and not eat until the next day. I recall doing it for five years in the past and wish to re-establish this regimen in the near future.

I would have breakfast at 9a, lunch at 1p and dinner at 5p.

Think in terms of human history. Wake, likely eat nuts and berries from the Day before. Start the day gathering new nuts and berries and hunting. After the hunt cool the meat and eat the nuts berries and vegetables gathered that day. Rest until morning.

It’s not endless feasting and that schedule is pretty close to 16/8. You want to be done with eating (being vulnerable) before the dark hits and we, as humans, are less safe.

Answer

Maintenance calorie IF and OMAD is an even greater life extender than calorie restriction in mice was shown to be years ago according to a recent study. If this is true then using calorie restriction IF to get down to a normal weight is of course a huge driver of lifespan extension in terms of reducing the likelihood of health issues due to obesity reducing it it….but once the excess weight is gone, continuing IF except at maintenace calories for the rest of your life should extend it beyond the average and closer to ones own biological/genetic potential.

Answer

If it is safe to do for months upon years than whhhy not 👍 keeps your body running optimal, or close to it anyway (given other factors) may need to adjust some things but you will figure that out as you go

Answer

I’ve done 22:2 for years, and did a 14 day fast and my blood results were perfect.

So imma go ahead and say yes, it is absolutely safe - especially 16/8 since it’s simply moving breakfast up a few hours.

There are studies saying it is safe as well.
