Is all protein the same?

[removed]

Answer

There are many types of amino acids. When I was in my nutrition degree, we were introduced to high quality protein: meat; and low quality protein: plant. Since meat contains a variety of amino acids, and plants has lesser, which is advised to consume a variety to have complete amino acids.

But some research pop up saying our body is intelligent enough to convert different amino acids to the types we lack/ we need.

So I guess it’s the same.

Edit: for muscle building, it depends on the brand. Some brands paid to do research if it helps to enhance muscle growth post/pre workout.

Answer

Hi-Protein diet/meals are considered the healthiest - always keep paying attention to the whole nutrition balances.

Protein is the common name, when digested, our body absorb them in shape of Amino Acids. There are 9 types of Essential Amino Acids (EAA) that need to be taken from foods everyday in a good balance to fulfill our daily protein needs. Non-Essential Amino Acids can be synthesized in our body from the Essential Amino Acids - as long as we have enough.

Best to find supplements that mentioned the individual Essential Amino Acids’ contents: Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Meth Cyst, Phen Tyr, Threonine, Tryptophan, Valine.

It’s very common to use Whey (milk leftover) to make protein drinks, because it’s cheap and ASSUMED that it contains high-protein. The best protein source is from plants but it takes more volume of base ingredients to produce similar protein contents from animals, thus more expensive. However, plant-based protein is easier to digest and been absorbed by body. Animal based protein will increase waste product in the body (especially liver & kidney) when consumed in large volume or long period of time.

Easy way to count daily protein intake is to convert your body weight in kg (kilogram) and convert it to gram. 1 gram per body kg.

Don’t forget to drink a lot of water daily, try to drink clean mineral water 5% of body weight daily. (e.g. If you are 80 kg, try drinking 4L/day). This will ensure optimal metabolism cycle in our body, don’t drink too much in short interval, try 100-400 ml with 1-3 hour intervals - of course you will pee a lot, but it will help body detoxification and metabolism.

Eat a lot of veggies & fruits to ensure nutrients sufficiency, take supplements because it’s hard/expensive to fulfill everything from foods.

Take care and take it easy! Stay healthy!
